FAQ
What a leather kit actually is, what happens to your airbags, and how to keep it looking new.
Is this a seat cover?
No. A seat cover slips over the seat you already have, and usually looks it, with loose corners, wrinkles, a gap where it does not quite reach.
A Katzkin interior replaces the factory upholstery entirely. The seats come out, the factory cloth is removed from the foam and the new covers are fitted in its place. Where your vehicle has cloth on the door panels or console, the kit normally covers those too. Finished properly, it looks like the leather package you could have ordered from the factory.
Who installs it?
You do, or a shop you pick. We ship the kit to your door, or straight to your installer if you would rather it go there.
Upholstery shops, trim shops and car audio installers all do this work. Call one before you order and ask what they charge for a Katzkin install, so you know your total going in. We do recommend having it done professionally.
If you happen to be near Jonesboro, AR, we install these in our own shop and you are welcome to book with us.
How long does it take?
A shop will usually have it done in a day. Third row SUVs and anything with unusual seat hardware run longer.
Doing it yourself, plan on a weekend rather than an afternoon. Take your time on the first seat and the rest go faster.
Is it real leather?
Katzkin leather content reflects the leather content provided by the car manufacturer, which normally includes full leather seating surfaces in the front seats and a combination of leather and synthetic materials in the rear seating areas. Katzkin uses only premium automotive leathers and synthetics, which are designed to meet or exceed the quality of the leather interior option offered by the manufacturer.
That is the same split the car manufacturers use, a factory leather-trimmed seat is built the same way. If you would rather avoid leather entirely, most designs are available in full synthetic. Ask us for pricing on that.
What about my side airbags and seat sensors?
They keep working. Katzkin patterns every seat individually, including the airbag deployment seams, which are built to tear in the same place and at the same force as the factory upholstery.
Heated seats, cooled seats, power adjustment and the occupant classification sensors under the cushion all carry on working. The interiors are tested against the vehicle manufacturer's own specifications rather than a generic standard.
How do I know there is a kit for my vehicle?
Use the vehicle finder at the top of our homepage. It runs on the live Katzkin fitment catalogue, so if your year, make, model and trim come up, there is a kit made specifically for it.
If your vehicle does not come up, call before you assume. Trim names change between model years and we can check against your VIN.
What is the warranty?
Every Katzkin leather-trimmed interior carries a 3 year / 36,000 mile national warranty on the product itself, honored anywhere in the country.
How do I look after it?
Blot spills straight away with a clean cloth or sponge, then clean the whole panel with lukewarm water rather than just the spot, so you do not leave a ring. Let it air dry, no hairdryers or heat guns.
For stubborn marks, a mild solution of Ivory bar soap and lukewarm water, blotted rather than rubbed. Heat and friction do more damage than the stain.
- Never use saddle soap, oils or abrasives
- No detergents, including dish soap
- No solvents, mineral spirits, ammonia or silicone products
- These strip the protective finish and can void the warranty
